Vehicle Theft Prevention

Greater Manchester Police would like to remind residents in the Royton and Oldham areas to take extra precautions to protect vehicles fitted with keyless entry and keyless start systems.

Criminals may use electronic devices to capture or relay signals from vehicle keys left near doors, windows, or other accessible locations within a property. This can allow them to gain access to and steal vehicles without needing the physical key.

To help keep your vehicle safe:

✅ Store car keys well away from doors and windows.
✅ Keep spare keys secure and out of sight.
✅ Consider using a signal-blocking pouch (Faraday pouch) for keyless fobs.
✅ Ensure your vehicle is locked and double-check it has secured properly.
✅ If available, activate additional security features such as steering wheel locks, immobilisers, tracking devices, or alarms.
✅ Report any suspicious activity, individuals, or vehicles in your neighbourhood.

If you witness suspicious behaviour or believe someone is attempting to interfere with vehicles, report it to Greater Manchester Police via 101 or 999 in an emergency.
