Protecting Your Fiat 500 Following Recent Increase in Vehicle Thefts

Greater Manchester Police is aware of a recent increase in thefts involving Fiat 500 vehicles across the area. We are working proactively to identify offenders, but we are also urging owners to take extra precautions to reduce the risk of becoming a victim.

🔐 Protect Your Vehicle

✅ Use additional security devices

Fit a steering wheel lock or similar visible deterrent

Consider a pedal box or wheel clamp, especially if parked overnight

Visible security measures can make your car less attractive to offenders.

🔑 Keep Your Keys Safe

✅ Prevent keyless theft (relay attacks)

Store keys in a signal-blocking Faraday pouch

Keep keys away from doors, windows, and letterboxes

Never leave keys in the vehicle, even for a short time

🚘 Lock It – Check It

✅ Always double-check your vehicle is secure

Lock your car and physically check the handle before walking away

Ensure windows and sunroofs are fully closed

Do not rely solely on key fob sounds or flashing lights

📍 Park Smart

✅ Choose safer parking locations

Park in well-lit, busy areas

Use secure car parks or garages where possible

Position your vehicle close to your home or under CCTV coverage

🔧 Consider Additional Protection

✅ Upgrade your vehicle security

Install an aftermarket immobiliser

Use an OBD port lock to prevent key reprogramming

Fit a tracking device to assist recovery if stolen

🚫 Remove All Valuables

✅ Don’t give thieves a reason

Remove bags, sat navs, and personal items from view

Avoid leaving documents in the car that show your address
