Dear Residents;
We are currently seeing an elevated level of reports of Burglary offences being reported in the Breightmet area - particularly along the Bury Road Corridor.
If you live close to a reported offence you may have already received a BeeInTheLoop Alert asking you if you have witnessed anything and to check CCTV.
Unknown offender's have been committing burglary offences at both residential and business premesis targeting insecure properties via windows or prying open windows to allow access and the to steal items from within.
Commonly stolen items include bank cards, cash, vehicle keys and then vehicles and electronic goods.
Officers from the Neighbourhood Priority Crime Team, The GMP Bolton North Neighbourhood Policing Team and Forensic Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) are working hard to bring the offenders to justice and will be increasing activity and vigilance in the affected areas. You may notice increased police activity in the area.
Please remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately to GMP using 999. Please also ensure that all offences are promptly reported to GMP using 101 or online at gmp.police.uk even if you don’t think there is an evidence. All reports are reviewed by officers and crime scene examiners accurate reporting allows us to target our activity into the right locations at the right time.
To help protect your homes and buildings, we have strongly encourage the following preventative measures:
• Ensure that all accessible windows and doors are closed and locked when the building or room is not occupied. Or use restrictors to limit the amount the window or door can open.
• Consider installing and using a good quality alarm system.
• Increase natural surveillance of the property by cutting back hedges, removing clutter and improving sightlines.
• Have a tidy up to remove items from outside the building that could be used as makeshift tools to force entry or to carry stolen goods.
• Store keys securely – Don’t make it easy for thieves. Keep car key fobs away from doors and windows, ideally in a signal blocking pouch to reduce the risk of relay attacks. Do Not Store spare keys in the vehicle.
• Consider installation of CCTV. Remember to install signs and to periodically check the system is fully operation and that camera lenses are clear.
• If you have a garage – Use it to store your vehicle keeping it out of sight and far more secure than in the open.
