Antisocial Behaviour (ASB) – Understanding ASB, How to Report It, and What Happens Next 

Antisocial Behaviour (ASB) is any behaviour that causes harassment, alarm or distress to others. While some incidents may appear minor, persistent ASB can have a significant impact on individuals, families and entire communities. 

What is ASB? 
Examples of antisocial behaviour include: • Excessive noise • Vandalism • Intimidation • Public drunkenness • Drug misuse • Anti-social driving • Littering and fly-tipping • Disruptive behaviour in public spaces

 
ASB can leave people feeling unsafe in their own homes and neighbourhoods. Most issues are resolved through early intervention, so it's important to report concerns before they escalate.

 
How to Report ASB 

If you experience or witness antisocial behaviour, please report it. 

Non-emergency: • Report online via Northamptonshire Police • Contact your local council (or housing provider if appropriate) • Call 101 

Emergency: • If a crime is in progress or someone is in immediate danger, always call 999. 
Recording Incidents 

Keeping a record of incidents can make a real difference. Note: 📅 Dates ⏰ Times 📝 What happened 📍 Locations (where possible) 

This information helps agencies understand patterns of behaviour and take appropriate action. 

What Happens Next? 
After a report is made, the relevant agency (Police, local council or housing provider) will assess the situation and determine the most appropriate response. 

Possible actions include:

 • Early intervention 

• Issuing warnings 

• Mediation between parties

• Providing support 

• Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABCs) 

• Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) 

• Community Protection Notices (CPNs)

 • Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs)

 • Enforcement action where necessary 

For persistent or complex issues, agencies may work together to provide a coordinated response.
