Here’s the latest update on bike theft in your area. Good Afternoon Hackney Central We would like to remind residents and cyclists to remain vigilant due to an increase in reported bike thefts in the area. Please be aware that some suspects involved in these offences may be carrying weapons. For your safety, do not approach, challenge, or engage with anyone attempting to steal a bicycle. If you witness a theft in progress or feel threatened, call 999 immediately. To help reduce the risk of theft, please consider the following crime prevention measures:
Use a high-quality secure lock (or multiple locks where possible). Ensure your bike is locked to a fixed and secure object. Avoid leaving bicycles in isolated or poorly lit areas. Where possible, park your bike in locations covered by CCTV and with good footfall. Take extra care when parking bikes during the evening and night time hours. Remove any easily detachable accessories and consider registering your bike and marking it with a unique identifier.
If you witness suspicious behaviour or have information relating to bike thefts, please report it via 101 or online. In an emergency or if a crime is in progress, call 999. Thank you for your continued support in helping keep our community safe. Hackney Central Safer Neighbourhood Team
We know that bikes are an important way for people to travel and are at risk of theft because of how expensive they can be. If you have your bike stolen, please report it as soon as possible. Delays in reporting can make it harder for us to investigate and recover stolen property. If you have a bike, you can help keep it safe by following our ten ways to protect your bike. The most important thing to remember is to double lock your bike and register the frame number. You can report an incident of bike theft by using our online reporting tools at https://www.met.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101. Please consider getting involved and contribute to the local priority survey, we may be unaware of issues that you would like us to focus on.
