Fly-Tipping & Littering

Sandwell Council has launched a targeted CCTV enforcement and prosecution drive this summer across Tipton, Great Bridge, and Princes End to combat a severe rise in illegal fly-tipping and street littering. Backed by significant new council funding, authorities are proactively monitoring known dumping hotspots and tracking down rogue "man-with-a-van" operations.

How to Report Fly-Tipping Online

If you spot dumped waste (such as furniture, mattresses, black bags, or building rubble) on public roads or paths in these areas:

·         Check Existing Reports First: Use the MySandwell Reported Issues Map to see if a green pin is already dropped on the location.

·         Submit a New Report: If it hasn't been logged, use the MySandwell Fly-Tipping Form. Make sure to specify the exact town (e.g., Tipton) and upload photos or details of any vehicle involved to assist with prosecutions.

·         Urgent & Dangerous Waste: If the fly-tipping poses an immediate hazard (e.g., blocked main roads, toxic chemicals, or discarded needles), call the emergency council hotline immediately at 0121 368 1177 (or 07889 117913 during out-of-hours/weekends).

Littering and Overflowing Street Bins

Standard loose litter, dog fouling, or overflowing public bins require a different response route:

·         Log these directly through the Sandwell Council Report a Problem Portal under the "Litter and dog bins" section.

·         If the issue involves waste accumulating on private land or a gated alleyway, the council will use the MySandwell Environmental Issues Form to issue a formal, legal clearance notice to the landowner.

⚠️ Avoid a £400 Fine: Your Legal Duty

Sandwell Council is actively issuing £400 Fixed Penalty Notices to Tipton and Great Bridge residents who hire unlicensed waste removal services from social media. If a "dodgy waste remover" dumps your household rubbish, you remain legally responsible and will face prosecution or a major fine.

·         Always check their Environment Agency waste carriers licence before they load your rubbish.

·         Instead of hiring untrusted vans, book a secure slot at the local Shone Dyke Household Recycling Centre (The Tip) or request an official Sandwell Council Bulky Waste Collection
