We wanted to share a quick update about dangerous driving in your area. Please be assured we’re working to keep everyone safe. Dear Residents, Cllr Dogus, Umer and Partners
Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to raise concerns regarding the ongoing antisocial behaviour involving loud vehicles, motorcycles and cars in the area. I appreciate the impact this behaviour is having on those who live and work locally, and I want to reassure you that we are actively looking at further opportunities to address the issue.
I would like to update you on recent changes to legislation that provide the police with additional powers. The updated legislation removes the previous requirement for officers to issue a warning to a driver before a vehicle can be seized in appropriate circumstances. This is a significant change and provides us with greater opportunities to deal with persistent offenders where the legal threshold is met.
My team and I are currently reviewing the legislation in full to ensure we have a thorough understanding of the new powers and how they should be applied. It is important to me that we are fully competent and confident in using this legislation correctly, ensuring it is applied lawfully, proportionately and effectively.
Once this review has been completed, I will be working with my colleagues and partner agencies in Waterloo to establish a joint operation aimed at tackling the ongoing issues with loud vehicles and antisocial driving. We will be looking at a coordinated approach to identify offenders and make full use of the powers available to us where appropriate.
Thank you for your continued patience and for continuing to report incidents to us. Your information helps us build an accurate picture of when and where these issues are occurring, allowing us to target our patrols and enforcement activity more effectively.
Kind regards,
Kayleigh JAMES Police Sergeant| Waterloo & Southbank Neighbourhood Policing Team
If someone is driving a motor vehicle, they should always be doing so in a safe and considerate manner. Even momentary lapses in judgement can have life changing or devastating consequences for those in the vehicle or innocent bystanders. Activities such as street racing, cruising or performing tricks can count as anti-social behaviour. If you are concerned about this in your area, visit our website for the latest guidance.
