Crime Prevention Message – Cash Machine Safety

Neighbourhood Crime Prevention Advice

We would like to remind members of the public to remain vigilant when using cash machines in or around Chadderton and any other ATM.

To help keep yourself safe:

Be aware of your surroundings before using the cash machine.

If possible, use an ATM in a well-lit and busy area.

Shield your PIN by covering the keypad with your hand when entering it.

Do not allow anyone to stand too close while you are using the machine.

If anyone approaches you or makes you feel uncomfortable, cancel the transaction and leave the area.

Check the machine for anything unusual or signs it may have been tampered with.

Put your cash and bank card away before leaving the ATM.

Avoid counting cash in public.

If possible, use contactless or card payments rather than withdrawing large amounts of cash.

If you witness any suspicious behaviour around cash machines, or believe someone may be targeting ATM users, please report it to Greater Manchester Police via 101, online, or 999 in an emergency.
