⚠️ COMMUNITY ALERT – THEFT OF VEHICLE REGISTRATION PLATES ⚠️ We have received reports of vehicle registration plates being stolen within the local area. Criminals may steal registration plates to:
Avoid detection when committing offences. Use on other vehicles involved in criminal activity. Evade parking charges, fuel payments, tolls, or congestion charges. How to protect your vehicle: ✅ Check your vehicle regularly to ensure both plates are present. ✅ Consider fitting anti-theft or tamper-resistant screws. ✅ Park in well-lit areas or locations covered by CCTV where possible. ✅ Report any suspicious behaviour around parked vehicles immediately. If your registration plates are stolen: 📞 Report the theft to the police via 101 or online. 📞 Contact the DVLA and your vehicle insurer. 📞 Inform your local authority if you receive penalties for offences you did not commit. What to look out for: 👀 Individuals loitering around parked vehicles. 👀 People tampering with registration plates. 👀 Vehicles displaying plates that appear damaged, altered, or insecurely fitted. If you have witnessed any suspicious activity or have relevant CCTV, doorbell camera, or dashcam footage, please report it to West Yorkshire Police.
