Dear Neighbourhood Link Member, Good Afternoon, and I hope you are well! Here is an update on neighbourhood policing in Syston, Thurmaston and surrounding: What have the neighbourhood team been doing? - High Visibility/Reassurance Patrols – in our ‘hot spot’ areas - On 04/07, your local Beat Team held a Beat Surgery at Thurmaston Retail Park, providing an opportunity for residents to speak with officers about local concerns, ask questions, and receive crime prevention advice. We were pleased to be joined by local councillors, and would like to thank everyone who took the time to stop by and chat with us. - We’re pleased to update that the team have successfully reported individuals responsible for riding motorbikes in an anti-social manner in both Thorpebury-in-the-Limes & Thurmaston, following police enquiries and evidence gathered, offences include riding on a bridleway, driving without a licence or insurance and drive without due care and attention. - The beat team are also currently supporting CID colleagues with enquiries into the Thurmaston Retail Park fire and vehicle damages that occurred overnight on 20th June 2026. Three youths have been arrested in relation to the Thurmaston retail park fire.
This is just a selection of what the neighbourhood team have been doing, we have also been completing crime investigations, partnership working with other agencies and engaging with residents and businesses in the area. Our Priorities - Reports of anti-social behaviour involving groups of youths within the NL61 area, particularly Syston and Thurmaston, have continued to be actively addressed. Targeted high-visibility patrols have been conducted during peak times in identified hotspot locations, with officers engaging directly with young people to challenge behaviour and set clear expectations.Following ongoing intelligence development and neighbourhood enquiries, three youths have now been arrested and bailed in connection with the fire at Thurmaston Retail Park and numerous criminal damage offences relating to vehicles across Syston and Thurmaston. Enquiries remain ongoing, with CID and the local beat team working closely together to secure all available evidence and progress the investigation. A problem management plan remains in place, with neighbourhood officers working alongside East Leicester teams and partner agencies to monitor offending, identify further evidential opportunities, and take appropriate enforcement action where required. Intelligence continues to be reviewed to identify emerging trends, repeat locations and those involved in anti-social behaviour and associated criminality. Since the arrests were made, a reduction in reports relating to youth-related anti-social behaviour and associated criminal damage has been noted across the area. Officers will continue to monitor incident levels and respond proactively to any emerging concerns. Engagement remains a priority, with beat surgeries continuing to provide opportunities for the public to raise concerns and receive updates. Partnership working with the local authority, schools and youth services is ongoing, ensuring a joined-up approach to prevention and early intervention, alongside the appropriate use of ASB powers where thresholds are met. These combined actions aim to reduce offending, deter further anti-social behaviour and criminal damage, and provide continued reassurance to the communities of Syston and Thurmaston. There has been an increase in reports of residential burglaries within the NL61 area. In response, targeted patrols have been conducted in identified hotspot areas, particularly during peak offending times. Officers have reviewed incident data to identify offending patterns, with CCTV, house-to-house enquiries, and forensic opportunities explored where available. Enquiries into recent burglary offences remain ongoing, with officers pursuing all available lines of investigation to identify those responsible and gather evidence. This work is intended to disrupt further offending, protect residents, and provide reassurance to those affected by recent incidents. Engagement has taken place with local residents to provide burglary prevention advice, including securing doors and windows, improving property security, and the importance of reporting suspicious activity. Reassurance visits have been conducted with victims where appropriate, ensuring support and safeguarding measures are considered. Beat surgeries continue to be held locally, allowing members of the public to raise concerns directly with officers, discuss burglary prevention, and receive advice on improving home security. Neighbourhood officers have also engaged with local communities to encourage vigilance and the sharing of information that may assist ongoing investigations. This activity will continue through intelligence-led tasking, targeted patrols, and ongoing community engagement, alongside partnership working where appropriate, to reduce further burglary offences and provide reassurance across the NL61 area. Reports of increased shoplifting within the NL61 area continue to be proactively addressed. Targeted patrols have been conducted around affected retail premises, informed by incident data and peak offending times. Officers have engaged with store staff to gather intelligence, review CCTV where available and provide tailored crime prevention advice. Repeat locations and nominals are being actively monitored through neighbourhood tasking. As part of this ongoing work, one prolific offender has been identified, arrested, and remanded into custody, a Community Behaviour Order (CBO) application has succesfully been obtained banning this male from the site. This represents positive action in tackling one of the highest harm individuals contributing to shoplifting within the area. Beat surgeries continue to take place, providing opportunities for local businesses and members of the public to engage with officers, raise concerns and discuss ongoing issues. Officers are working closely with the Safer Streets team to identify and target the most impactful offenders. Robust enforcement action is being pursued where appropriate, including the continued use of CBOs to prevent repeat offending and protect local businesses. This activity will continue through intelligence‑led patrols, strong partnership working and proportionate enforcement, with the aim of reducing shoplifting and providing reassurance across the NL61 area. Upcoming Neighbourhood Consultations Tuesday 14th July at Quenibean in Queniborough from 12:00 – 13:00 Saturday 25th July at Watermead Park from 10:00am – 12:00am Neighbourhood consultations are a good opportunity to discuss your neighbourhood concerns and meet your local policing team.
