Northfield Safer Neighbourhood Team – Community Safety Message

Dear Resident,

The Northfield Safer Neighbourhood Team would like to make residents aware of a number of recent residential burglaries that have occurred on Windmill Road W5 over the past three months.

In these incidents, suspects have gained access to properties by entering through the rear of addresses via a service alley before targeting vulnerable entry points. We are sharing this information to encourage residents to remain vigilant and to review the security of their homes.

Crime Prevention Advice

To help reduce the risk of burglary, please consider the following security measures:

Ensure all doors and windows are locked whenever you leave your home, even if only for a short period.

Check that rear gates are secure and fitted with good-quality locks.

Keep service alleys and access routes clear and report any damaged or insecure gates to the relevant authority.

Consider installing CCTV, video doorbells, security lighting, or alarm systems.

Trim hedges and vegetation that may provide cover for offenders.

Avoid leaving valuables on display where they can be seen from outside.

Store tools, ladders and other items securely, as these can be used to gain entry to properties.

Use timer switches for lights when away from home to give the impression that the property is occupied.

Mark valuable property and keep a record of serial numbers where possible.

Remain Vigilant

We are asking all Northfield residents to be aware of any suspicious activity, particularly around rear access routes, service alleys, and gardens. If you see individuals acting suspiciously, attempting to access properties, or loitering in areas where they would not normally be expected, please report this.
