Specialist support for domestic abuse at the first call |
||
|
Resident,
Specialist support around domestic abuse will be available at the first call, thanks to a new project.
Derbyshire Constabulary now has two members of staff from the Elm Foundation based within the control room. These are independent domestic abuse specialists who are already sharing their expertise, as well as enhancing safeguarding and developing tools to help better protect victims.
By embedding this specialist support, we’re working towards delivering a more tailored approach for those who reach out to us for help.
Detective Chief Inspector Eleanor Develin from Derbyshire Constabulary said: “Domestic abuse is extremely impactful and personal to each and every victim, so it is right that we are working to offer a service that reflects this.
“The specialists from the Elm Foundation being on hand in our control room will be pivotal in providing that specialist support from the outset.
“The period of time between a victim reaching out for help and an officer arriving can be a particularly vulnerable and high-risk time, so this helps us bridge that gap during that time. By enhancing our ability to identify risk earlier, we can take more effective safeguarding action and better protect victims when they need us most.
“This pilot represents an important opportunity to strengthen the service we provide to victims of domestic abuse, and we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure that those who reach out to us receive the protection, support and safeguarding they deserve.”
