Think Ahead |

|
Enjoy the game – but think ahead to the journey home and the day after With England back in action tonight, and warm weather expected across York and North Yorkshire, many people will be making the most of the sunshine before settling down to watch the match with friends and family. Across the county, pubs, bars, beer gardens, BBQs and other social events are expected to be busy as supporters come together to cheer on England. While we want everyone to enjoy the occasion, it's important to plan ahead and make responsible choices if alcohol is involved. Our officers will be patrolling throughout the day and night, with a particular focus on keeping our communities and roads safe. We will have highly visible patrols across the county, including in town and city centres, at key event locations and on major routes, while carrying out proactive enforcement to identify drink and drug drivers. One of the most common misconceptions is that a few hours' sleep is enough to make someone fit to drive the following morning. In reality, alcohol can stay in your system far longer than many people realise, meaning you could still be over the legal limit the next day. If you're planning to enjoy the match with a drink, take a moment to think ahead. Arrange a designated driver, book a taxi, use public transport where available, or make plans to stay overnight. Most importantly, don't assume you'll be safe to drive the following morning just because you've had some sleep. Let's support England, enjoy the warm weather and make the most of the weekend safely. Don't drink and drive. Don't take drugs and drive.
