I wanted to provide you an update regarding Shoplifting, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. We have received information from a local resident that a prolific shoplifter, well known to us, has returned to their old habits and is once again targeting local businesses. At present, they have not breached the conditions of their Community Protection Notice, as the restrictions only prevent them from entering certain shops within our designated area. We have spoken with a number of affected businesses; however, unfortunately some have chosen not to report incidents to the police. We have also engaged with another business that has provided CCTV footage. As a result, we have been able to identify the suspects involved and are currently progressing enquiries with a view to arresting both individuals. We understand how frustrating this can be for residents and businesses, particularly when it may appear that no action is being taken. From a policing perspective, we will always seek to identify offenders, gather evidence, and place them before the courts whenever possible. To do this effectively, we need your help. Information from the public is invaluable. It helps us build evidence, identify patterns of offending, and provides intelligence that officers can act upon while carrying out patrols in the area. If you witness a crime in progress, please call 999. For non-emergency matters, please contact us via 101. If you have information that does not require an immediate police response, you can message the team through Met Engage or email us at DulwichWood@met.police.uk. Thank you for your continued support in helping us tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in the local area. Dulwich Wood Safer Neighbourhood Team.
Shoplifting is a crime that can have a substantial negative impact on local businesses across London. If you notice anything suspicious or witness anyone shoplifting, please report it as soon as possible. These reports are invaluable in letting us build a picture of when and where shop lifters operate, meaning we can be in the right place at the right time to arrest those responsible. For more guidance, see our page on how to spot a shoplifter. We are working on our brand-new strategy for how we police London and we want your help. Our New Met for London: Phase 2 strategy will guide how we deliver on behalf of Londoners over the next three years. |
