Good Morning; GMPs Operation Hurricane once again blew through Bolton this week, with the team visiting the Bolton North area on Monday 14th July 2026.
Operation Hurricane is GMPs response to the inappropriate use of off road motorbikes, electric motorbikes and adapted or de-restricted electrically assisted pedal cycles. This is an issue that is frequently raised by our communities in incident reports, at meetings and on the street. Misuse of these vehicles continues to cause significant disruption within communities, affecting quality of life and posing serious risks to the public. In some cases, this behaviour has resulted in serious injuries and fatal collisions, with devastating consequences for victims, their families and local neighbourhoods.
Local officers from the Bolton North Neighbourhood Policing Team once again joined forces with officers from our Roads Policing Unit (RPU), Motorcycle Wing, the GMP Drone and National Police Air Service (NPAS)to target specific hotspot areas to deter, detect and disrupt offences from taking place.
The teams work closely with other GMP teams, partners and communities to use the latest intelligence and live reports to target offenders and hotspot areas.
As a result of today’s operation: • An off-road bike was seized in Smithills after the rider failed to stop for officers and abandoned his bike.
• Two off-road bikes were seized in Hall i’th wood after being spotted by our Drone Unit riding around the streets and then into a garden. • A moped was seized in Tonge Moor after the rider failed to stop for officers. • An E-bike was seized in Tonge Moor due to the rider having no insurance. • A motorbike was seized in Lostock due to the rider having no insurance. Where appropriate riders were also reported for consideration of prosecution for the relevant offences which may mean fines, points on their driving licences and even disqualification even for those who don't already hold driving licences.
Officers also stopped and spoke with a number of other motorists and particularly motorcyclists to ensure compliance and to offer advice and guidance.
This is Op Hurricane’s second visit to the area in the last two weeks if you missed our earlier post about the first visit you can read it here.
