Monthly community update from North Powys Roads Policing Sgt Rob Hamer - June 2026.

Hello everyone

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share a quick round up of the work that your local Roads Policing Unit have been doing in your area, what's coming up and how we are working with partners to keep our roads safe for those living in, working in and visiting North Powys.

From what our communities have told us we have been focusing on:

Priority 1 - Speeding Concerns in Tregynon

Priority 2 - ASB driving in Tregynon

In addition to the above we have also been conducting additional proactive road safety patrols and speed enforcement on the A483 Newtown to Welshpool. These additional patrols are in in response to concerns raised with us by your local councillors, community representatives and local residents.

To effectively tackle these issues we have been working with:

The Neighbourhood Policing & Prevention Team (NPPT)

Local Councillors & Community Representatives

These collaborations are helping us respond more effectively and holistically to community needs.

As a result we have:

Conducted around 24 hours of dedicated road safety patrols and enforcement in your area.

Dealt with nearly 70 road traffic offences across North Powys.

Made 12 Drink or Drug Drive Arrests across North Powys.

Conducted a number of Drone Flights in support of policing operations such as High Risk Missing / Vulnerable Persons searches.

In addition to the above, advanced riders from our Police Motorcycle Team have been busy helping with the successful delivery of “Bike Safe” courses, helping riders of all experience levels to improve their riding skills and stay safe on the roads.

This coming month we will continue to target the issues affecting our communities by participating in the following Road Safety Campaigns:

Operation APEX (our ongoing Motorcycle Safety Campaign which aims to reduce the number of serious road traffic collisions involving motorcyclists).

Operation Spotlight (which targets the FATAL 5 driving offences - Drink & Drug Driving, Speeding, Mobile Phone Use & No Seatbelts)

NPCC Ghost Plate Operation (proactively targeting vehicles fitted with “Ghost Plates”)

Upcoming events

The Royal Welsh show will attract large volume of traffic and Powys Roads Policing team will be involved in carrying out checks ensuring the road worthiness of vehicles attending the show as well as maintaining as little disruption to the road networks around the showground.

The Ceredigion Roads Policing Team will also be out conducting some local operations in support of the upcoming road safety campaigns as well as focusing on community concerns around speeding and other road safety matters.
