Warning to make sure motorbikes are safe and secure |

Motorbike owners are being urged to make sure their two wheelers are being kept safe and secure when not in use as the hotter weather continues. While there is no pattern to recent thefts, most of those stolen have been the smaller 125cc bikes which perhaps points to so-called ‘joy riders’ taking them. The hotter climes of recent weeks coupled with the usual increased use of bikes out on the roads in the summer means some owners may also be leaving them outside more often. This has prompted our Rural and Business Crime team to issue a timely reminder to take preventive measures to make sure your two-wheeler does not fall foul of thieves. Pete Meredith, a Rural and Business Officer from Prevention Hub South, said: “It’s that time of year when bikers are on the roads in higher numbers, especially with the recent hotter weather. “We would urge motorbike owners to consider some security measures to make sure their two-wheeler doesn’t get stolen. “Security wise we would recommend owners to consider fitting a reputable tracker/immobiliser to their bikes. “When parked in the open, or accessible places then we would ask owners to consider a layered security system using several of the below from reputable manufactures, ideally approved by Secured by Design.” Some tips to help keep your motorbike secure include: - Bike chain (loop it through forks/frame to an immovable object) Padlock/alarmed padlock A ‘D’ lock Disc-shaped lock/alarmed disc lock A handlebar lock Bike cover (thieves cannot easily identify what is underneath) Park the bike near CCTV (if available) When parked in a garage at home consider: A ground anchor CCTV Alarm Garage door defenders | ||
