Live Facial Recognition Operation |
||
|
On Tuesday 14th July, officers from your ward team participated in another Live Facial Recognition (LFR) operation in Victoria. The LFR truck was parked on Victoria Street with camera arrays on both sides of the street. The technology matches faces with those who are wanted by the police or courts and individuals who are Registered Sex Offenders or subject to Sexual Harm Prevention Orders. It was a successful day with seven arrests in total, most of them within the first two hours of the operation. Those arrested included a male who had breached his tag order, another who had failed to comply with the conditions of a suspended sentence, one who was wanted on recall to prison and a male who was wanted for Actual Bodily Harm and stalking. Your ward officers were actively involved in most of the arrests and were responsible for the initial detentions and transfer of the suspects to cells at Charing Cross Police Station. Live Facial Recognition technology is being deployed on a regular basis across all London boroughs and there are plans to increase the fleet of trucks at the Met’s disposal. The technology is highly accurate with a “false positive” rate of just 1 in 300,000 identifications. LFR is making a real contribution to finding wanted suspects and making our streets safer.
