Yesterday morning and afternoon, Operation Orion officers were deployed across Halifax to tackle anti-social behaviour, retail crime, and road safety issues. We would like to provide some brief updates from the deployment. Officers seized two vehicles that had been identified through intelligence gathering as "pool" vehicles – low-value cars used by individuals involved in crime and anti-social behaviour within our communities. Whilst no arrests were made, these types of seizures disrupt offenders and maximise public safety by preventing the vehicles from being driven dangerously in attempts to evade police. We also seized the vehicle shown in the image below following information received from a member of the public that it was being driven by a provisional licence holder. The information proved to be correct, and officers found that the driver was using trade plates in an attempt to evade detection. As a result, further offences were identified and the trade plates were confiscated.A 38-year-old woman from the Calderdale area was dealt with for a low-value shoplifting offence. Whilst officers addressed the offence, she was also referred to partner agencies for support, given her personal circumstances.Officers also searched two individuals following suspicions of drug dealing in the Lister Lane/Hopwood Lane area. No drugs were found on this occasion. We will continue to support our NPT colleagues in the town centre over the coming months.
