Crime Prevention Advice for Toyota and Lexus Owners

Dear Resident,

We are writing to raise awareness of an increase in the theft of certain Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the area and to provide advice on how you can help protect your vehicle from becoming a target of crime.

Criminals are increasingly using sophisticated methods to gain entry to vehicles and steal them without the use of the owner's keys. While manufacturers continue to improve security systems, there are several practical steps owners can take to reduce the risk of theft.

How to Protect Your Vehicle

Park securely whenever possible, ideally in a locked garage.

If parking on a driveway, consider parking another vehicle behind it to make removal more difficult.

Use a steering wheel lock or other visible security device. These act as a deterrent and may encourage offenders to move on to an easier target.

Consider fitting an approved aftermarket immobiliser or vehicle tracking system.

Store keyless entry fobs well away from doors and windows and use a signal-blocking pouch (Faraday pouch) when not in use.

Ensure your vehicle's software is kept up to date in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.

Remove valuables from your vehicle and avoid leaving documents containing your address inside.

Make sure your vehicle is locked, even when parked on your driveway.

Be Vigilant

Please report any suspicious behaviour, particularly:

Individuals loitering around parked vehicles.

People looking into vehicles or testing door handles.

Unfamiliar vehicles repeatedly driving around residential streets.

Anyone interfering with vehicle bodywork, wheel arches or electronic components.

Reporting Crime

If you witness a crime in progress or believe a vehicle theft is taking place, call 999 immediately.

For non-emergency information, suspicious activity, or to report a crime after it has occurred, contact police on 101 or report online via the force website.

Vehicle crime affects the whole community. By remaining vigilant and taking simple preventative measures, we can work together to reduce opportunities for offenders and keep our neighbourhoods safe.
