Operation Snap

Operation Snap is a public website designed for reporting driving offenses in Northamptonshire. The public can complete an online form and upload video evidence captured from their vehicles. Roads policing officers will assess the submitted evidence and take appropriate action against any driver found to be committing an offense. 

This service has been operational for over seven years, receiving more than 3000 dash camera videos in the last 12 months, with a consistent increase in video evidence submissions each year. This trend can be interpreted in two ways: either more drivers are recognising the advantages of having a dash camera (such as for insurance and liability purposes), or there are more irresponsible drivers on the roads. Regardless, this initiative contributes to enhancing road safety. 

So, why do the police continue to provide this service? The reality is that they cannot be present everywhere, and there are not enough funds to employ thousands more officers in Northamptonshire. Moreover, when a marked police vehicle is nearby, most drivers tend to behave responsibly! By submitting evidence, we can assist in making our roads safer and help prevent potential future accidents and serious incidents. Additionally, any vehicle lacking tax, MOT, or insurance can be investigated through dashcam footage, aiming to remove dangerous and uninsured vehicles from our roads.
