Police reminder about road closures this weekend

Officers are facilitating rolling road closures across North Devon and Mid Devon on Sunday to keep people safe during the South Molton Grand Prix.

The event, hosted by British Cycling will be held on 19 July and is due to start at 10:00am from Pannier Market in South Molton.   

Roads along the course will be closed for short periods until 4:00pm to allow cyclists to pass safely.

Officers from Devon & Cornwall Police will be overseeing road closures and are asking people to seek alternative routes where possible.

Neighbourhood Beat Manager, Sergeant Robert Brown said “We’re working with the council to minimise disruption on the roads, but please be aware that there may be delays if you are planning to travel in the area on Sunday.

“We recommend allowing extra time for journeys and seeking alternative routes where possible. If you are on the road and do encounter a closure, please follow signage and instructions from event marshals and police officers.

“Thank you for your patience and support as we welcome this exciting national sporting event to our area. We wish all competitors a safe and successful race!”

The women’s race starts at 10:00am and will see participants cycling along the B3137 turning left at Gidley cross, left again at Batsworthy Cross, and will then head back into South Molton. This circuit will be repeated four times to complete the race.

The men’s race starts at 1:00pm. Cyclists will head out of the Pannier Market, onto the B3137 and will travel through Meshaw, Witheridge, and Nomansland to Tiverton where they will turn left to travel along the Rackenford Road until they turn left at Batsworthy Cross, Gidley Cross before travelling back into South Molton.
