Keeping Shared Spaces Safe for Everyone

Your local neighbourhood policing team has recently been carrying out patrols in the rear alleyways and ginnels around Entwisle Road, Trafalgar Street, Taylor Street and surrounding streets following concerns raised by residents about anti social behaviour, littering and people gathering in these areas during the evening.

Alleyways provide important access for residents, but when they are not kept secure they can sometimes attract activity that has a negative impact on the local community. We are encouraging residents to keep rear gates closed and locked where possible and to report any damaged gates, fencing or suspicious behaviour.

We would also like to remind residents that household waste should be disposed of correctly and not left in alleyways or communal spaces. Fly tipping is an offence and can lead to enforcement action by Rochdale Borough Council. Dumped rubbish can also create health and fire risks, make access difficult for emergency services and affect the appearance of the neighbourhood.

If you see people regularly entering rear alleyways without a legitimate reason, causing damage, consuming alcohol, using drugs or engaging in antiasocial behaviour, please report it. Information from local residents helps us build a picture of what is happening and allows us to target our patrols effectively.

We will continue to work alongside Rochdale Borough Council, local housing providers and residents to address concerns and keep these areas clean, safe and accessible. Thank you to those who have already spoken with officers and shared information with us.
