REPORTS OF MALE SELLING MATTRESSES

We have received reports of a man in a van approaching residents in the Rugeley area and offering what are described as "great deals" on mattresses.

While doorstep selling is not always illegal, this type of activity can be associated with scams and rogue traders. Residents are reminded to exercise caution when approached by unsolicited sellers, particularly those offering products at heavily discounted prices or pressuring you to make an immediate purchase.

Potential risks include:

✅ Being sold poor-quality or counterfeit goods
✅ Being charged significantly more than agreed
✅ Having no paperwork, receipt, or guarantee
✅ Rogue traders using the opportunity to gain access to your property or personal information

Please remember:

Do not feel pressured into making a purchase on the doorstep.

Ask for identification and business details.

Never hand over money unless you are completely satisfied the trader is legitimate.

If in doubt, close the door and seek advice from a trusted friend or family member.

Be particularly vigilant for elderly or vulnerable neighbours who may be targeted.
