How Residents Can Protect Their Vehicles

Simple crime prevention measures can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of vehicle crime:

Always lock your vehicle, even when parked outside your home.

Remove valuables from sight, including mobile phones, handbags, wallets, and tools.

Never leave vehicle keys unattended or visible inside the property.

Consider using steering wheel locks, tracking devices, or other security products.

Park in well-lit areas where possible.

Ensure windows and sunroofs are fully closed when leaving the vehicle.

Do not leave spare keys inside the vehicle.

Protecting Keyless Vehicles

Criminals are increasingly targeting keyless entry vehicles. To reduce the risk:

Store keys away from doors and windows.

Use a signal-blocking pouch (Faraday pouch) for keyless fobs.

Check with manufacturers regarding software and security updates.
