Glossop SNT - Crime prevention tips - Burglary
Burglars will use a variety of ways to avoid being noticed.
They don’t want to be seen or heard by a neighbour or passer-by because they will feel exposed and identifiable.
ℹ️ Here’s some useful advice, firstly on helping to keep burglars out by giving them no hiding place and secondly how to prevent and protect your home from burglary, secure all entry points, manage visibility, and use strategic lighting.
Key steps include locking doors and windows, hiding valuables, and using light timers.
🔐 Securing Doors and Windows
🔐 Managing Visibility and Deterrents
🔐 Protecting Valuables
🔐 And particularly in the Summer
🧠 It’s easy to forget that thieves can quickly target an open window or door and be in and out of your property before you realise.
🤔 Make sure you deny the thieves any easy opportunities: • If you’re out in the back garden, close any windows at the front of the house and lock the front door, as you may not hear someone coming through an open window or door at the front. • Keep your valuables safe and hidden, and store keys in a safe place out of sight. • If you leave the house for any reason, make sure all doors and windows are closed and locked properly. • Keep your garden secure and fit a garden gate lock to stop thieves snooping around unseen at the back of your house. • Keep tools and ladders locked away. Make sure your shed is secure. • Simple landscaping like a gravel path or thorny shrubs can also act as a deterrent.
🚗 Don’t forget to secure your car in warm weather – don’t leave windows open or have valuables on display.
