Appeal following suspected field arsons in North Herts

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a series of suspected arsons in North Herts fields.

Officers have received reports of four separate fires in different fields behind Chilvers Bank and Hilltop in Baldock on Monday (27 July), Saturday (25 July), Thursday (23 July) and Wednesday (22 July).

PC Edward Ensor of the North Herts Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I am appealing for witnesses, or anyone who has doorbell cameras near these areas which caught anything suspicious on these days, to get in touch.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who believes they know who may be responsible to come forward. We have increased patrols in the area.

“Field arson doesn't just burn crops and grass, it destroys habitats, threatens lives, and can leave lasting scars on communities and the countryside.

“Farmers can lose crops, grazing land, feed supplies and income that their businesses depend on.

“A deliberate fire in a field can quickly become an emergency for firefighters, residents, and the local environment.”
