Retail crime work "Op Kelleher" nominated for global award |
||
|
Throughout 2025, officers from the local Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) carried out targeted enforcement activity under Operation Kelleher, focusing on the area's most prolific and repeat shoplifting offenders. The operation delivered outstanding results across Bromley, targeting the top 10 prolific offenders responsible for a significant amount of retail crime in the borough. As a result, these individuals were arrested and charged with numerous offences. The team also secured Criminal Behaviour Orders against several offenders, helping to prevent further offending and protect local businesses. The impact of this work has been significant, with a 70% reduction in recorded retail crime and a 70–80% reduction in retailer stock loss. One business reported its weekly losses falling from £7,000 to just £400. In recognition of these exceptional results, this work has been selected as one of only seven finalists for the 2026 Herman Goldstein Award for Excellence in Problem-Oriented Policing, an internationally recognised award celebrating innovative and effective policing initiatives. 👏 A fantastic achievement for the officers involved and a clear demonstration of the positive impact of problem-solving policing in keeping our communities safe and supporting local businesses. | ||
