Appeal following high value fibre cable theft

More than £30,000 worth of fibre cable has been stolen from House Lane in St Albans. 

The cable appears to have been taken between 9pm on Friday 24 July and 9am on Saturday 25 July, after numerous manhole covers in the road were accessed.

Officers investigating the crime are now appealing for witnesses and information following the theft. 

PC Nathan Bentley, who is investigating, said: “A theft of this scale would have required heavy machinery and vans and there may have been a fair bit of noise at the time. It is highly likely that a few individuals were involved and they may have been dressed in a work uniform to avoid suspicion. 

“If anyone was in the area at the time and noticed any suspicious vehicles or activity please get in contact. Also, if you were driving in the area at the time with a dash cam in operation we would also like to speak to you. You may have recorded vital footage without actually realising it.”
