Increase in Fuel Thefts

We are seeing an increase in fuel thefts across the area and are working hard to identify those responsible and prevent further offences.

Fuel theft can have a significant impact on both residents and businesses, particularly farms, haulage companies, construction sites and anyone storing fuel for vehicles, machinery or generators.

Crime Prevention Advice

There are a number of simple steps you can take to help reduce the risk of becoming a victim:

Install good quality locks on fuel tanks and storage areas.

Consider using anti-siphon devices and locking fuel caps.

Ensure storage areas are well-lit and covered by CCTV where possible.

Regularly check fuel levels and investigate any unexplained losses.

Park vehicles and machinery in secure locations, ideally behind locked gates.

Remove keys from vehicles and machinery when not in use.

Consider fuel security alarms, tracking devices or forensic marking products.

Report any suspicious vehicles or people seen near fuel storage areas, especially during evenings and overnight.
