Distraction Burglar

A member of public reported the following :

In Chelverton Road we had a distraction burglar claiming to be from the Waterboard and needing to come in and read the meter  That was a fake line used many years ago by distraction burglars as no such organisation exists.

We think it is being tried on as Thames Water are installing mandatory water meters. I spoke to TW and they confirmed that you send in your meter reading just like other utilities. The only description we got was a tall, thin non-white male and it was about 9.50am on 29th July.

Please be aware of this and always check with the company, if in doubt. Do not let strangers into your property.
