Dear Residents and Local Businesses, here is your weekly update from your local neighbourhood Policing Team. As the weather has turned more pleasant after the recent heatwave, the Stoke & Wyken team have been actively patrolling our local green spaces, some of the areas they have covered included Caludon Castle Park, Stoke Heath, Gosford Park, Tick Tock Park, Wyken Croft Nature Park, and the green space near The Lindfield. However, with temperatures predicted to increase again throughout August, here are some general safety tips to consider -
Hydration & Nutrition Drink fluids constantly: Sip water before you actually feel thirsty. Avoid certain beverages: Limit alcohol, caffeine, and drinks high in sugar. Eat light meals: Opt for food with high water content like salads. Personal Protection Apply sunscreen regularly: Use a high SPF rating even on cloudy days. Wear appropriate clothing: Choose loose, light-colored, breathable cotton or linen fabrics. Wear a hat: Protect your face and head with a wide-brimmed option. Stay out of peak sun: Remain indoors between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Home Cooling Techniques Close your curtains: Block out direct sunlight on windows facing the sun. Shut windows early: Keep windows closed during peak afternoon outdoor heat. Open windows later: Let cooler night air circulate once temperatures drop outside. Turn off electronics: Unplug appliances that generate unnecessary ambient heat. Looking Out for Others Check on neighbours: Reach out to elderly or vulnerable community members. Never leave anyone in cars: Do not leave children or pets in parked vehicles. Watch your pets: Ensure animals have fresh water and cool, shaded resting spots
Summer being here also means that we will see an increase in off road bikes being driven dangerously in our roads, to help us tackle this effectively, we're asking for residents to share any information they may have, including; Your information, no matter how small could make a real difference to tackle this ongoing issue. Next week, our team will be visiting retail locations to distribute various literature and security devices at no cost. If you spot us at places like the Warwickshire Retail Park, we encourage you to approach us. We may have locks, alarms, and faraday pouches available for your keyless vehicles. The specific dates for these visits will be irregular due to our responsibilities, but we will soon share the schedule and continue these efforts in the future. Furthermore, the Stoke & Wyken team have made three arrests this week, one for violating an EMS tag, another related to an ongoing investigation concerning a harassment order and lastly for a shoplifting offence. EMS tags are electronic tags which can be either curfew tags, location tags or alcohol tags. More information regarding this can be found on Electronic tags - GOV.UK There was only one report bought to Officers attention concerning wildlife occurring just over a week ago. It involved a bizarre sighting of another large cat by a resident who was walking their dog in the early evening. The individual noticed a sizable black cat, larger than an adult German Shepherd, moving swiftly in the distance. They reported that the cat vanished into the dark mist after a few moments. This sighting took place in the area between Brandon and Binley Woods, near the eastern bypass close to Starbucks, which has previously been referred to as both "Catfoot" and "Binley Mega Kitty." As always, we urge the public to stay vigilant. Residents are encouraged to appreciate local wildlife responsibly. If you suspect you have seen an injured, escaped, or potentially dangerous animal, please refrain from approaching it and report your sighting to the appropriate authorities. Providing photographs, video footage, and details about the time and location can assist wildlife organizations in evaluating reports more effectively.
