As we move through another busy month in Leigh Town Centre, your Neighbourhood Policing Team has continued to work alongside residents, businesses and partner agencies to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour and issues that affect our community. Here's a look at some of the key activity and successes from July.

👏 Missing Vulnerable Male Safely Located

On 11 July, PCSOs located a high-risk missing 82-year-old male after extensive enquiries and searches throughout the day. The gentleman was found safely in Hindley and reunited with his family.

A fantastic outcome and excellent example of partnership working and perseverance by officers involved.

🏠 Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour

✅ Partial Closure Order Granted - Conway Close

A Partial Closure Order was granted on 10 July for a property on Conway Close, Leigh, following ongoing reports of anti-social behaviour linked to the address.

The order was secured through joint working between Greater Manchester Police, Wigan Council and partner agencies after evidence demonstrated the significant impact being caused to local residents.

This order places restrictions on who can enter the property, helping reduce nuisance, disorder and criminality within the area.

✅ Closure Order Secured - Devon Street

Further positive action was taken on 17 July, when a Closure Order was obtained for a property on Devon Street, Leigh, again following persistent anti-social behaviour concerns.

✅ Civil Injunction Obtained

A Civil Injunction has also been secured against a prolific anti-social behaviour offender who has been responsible for ongoing issues in Leigh Town Centre, including alcohol-related disorder and rowdy behaviour.

These measures demonstrate our continued commitment to protecting businesses, residents and visitors from persistent offenders.

🚔 Wanted Female Arrested

During routine town centre patrols on 22 July, officers stopped a female believed to be wanted by police.

Checks revealed the 49-year-old was wanted for:

Following her arrest and search, officers also located two packets of suspected Class A drugs, resulting in an additional arrest for possession of a Class A controlled substance.

A great example of proactive policing and the value of high-visibility patrols.

🚗 Stolen Vehicle Recovered

On 24 July, officers attended reports of an abandoned vehicle after concerns were raised by a member of the public.

Checks revealed the vehicle had been stolen from Salford earlier in the year. Further enquiries showed the vehicle had been fitted with cloned registration plates taken from an identical vehicle in an attempt to disguise its identity.

Thank you to the vigilant member of the public whose report helped recover the vehicle.

🛍️ Retail Crime & Business Engagement

July saw continued work with local businesses to tackle retail crime and protect traders.

Incidents reported this month included:

🔹 Shoplifting offences across the town centre retail area.
🔹 Theft of charity shop takings from a local store.
🔹 Attempted scams and frauds identified by vigilant retail staff.
🔹 Excellent partnership working by shop staff who identified vulnerable victims being targeted by online scams and gift card frauds.

We would like to thank businesses who continue to report incidents and support police investigations.

🚲 Ongoing Work Around Off-Road Bikes & Youth ASB

Officers continue to receive reports regarding:

Particular concerns remain around the Town Centre, Bus Station and Higher Folds areas, where partners and residents have raised concerns regarding nuisance riding and public safety.

Work with partner agencies remains ongoing to identify offenders and reduce these issues.

🤝 Working Together

Throughout July, officers attended two multi-agency partnership meetings to discuss recurring issues affecting Leigh Town Centre and surrounding communities.

These meetings allow police, local authority partners and other agencies to share information and coordinate action against problem locations and repeat offenders.

☕ Community Engagement

📍 Police Surgeries

Officers carried out four community surgeries during July, providing residents and businesses with an opportunity to raise concerns, seek advice and discuss local issues directly with their neighbourhood team.
