I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Theft - Shoplifting, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. We’re continung to work with local retailers and partner agencies to help crackdown on shoplifting in Watford.
As a result of patrols, plain clothed operations and information reported into police, several people have been arrested and charged with multiple offences throughout July:
⚖️ James Anderson, aged 40, of Charter Place, Watford, was charged with 27 counts of shoplifting in The Parade. He pleaded guilty to all counts during a hearing at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 28 July and was given an eight week custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay £130.55 in compensation.
⚖️ Jessica Power, aged 29, of Cunningham Avenue in Hatfield, has been charged with seven counts of theft from a shop, a theft of an e-scooter, theft from a motor vehicle, assaulting an emergency worker and breaching a Community Protection Notice. She is due to appear before magistrates in August.
⚖️ Max Leeming, aged 31, of Princes Avenue, Watford, was charged with seven counts of theft from the Harlequin Centre. He is due to appear before magistrates in August.
⚖️ Bradley Chubb, aged 38, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts of theft from a shop in St Albans Road and a theft from a shop in Colnhurst Road. He is due to appear before magistrates’ in September.
⚖️ Richard Powell, aged 41, of Fairfolds in Watford, has been charged with one count of theft from a shop. He is due to appear before magistrates in August.
⚖️ Andrea Wilson, aged 52, of no fixed address, has been charged with one count of theft from a shop. She is due to appear before magistrates in September.
A further five Community Resolutions were issued for low-level offences in the town centre.
Shoplifting is not a victimless crime and we will continue to do all we can to identify offenders and bring them before the courts.
