Crime Prevention Advice

We continue to see reports of vehicle thefts and burglaries occurring within our local community. As part of our commitment to keeping you safe, we would like to share some simple crime prevention advice to help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.

Burglary Prevention

Ensure all doors and windows are locked when leaving your property, even if only for a short period.

Keep ground floor windows closed and secure, particularly when the property is unattended.

Consider using timer switches on lights when away from home to give the impression the property is occupied.

Store valuable items out of sight from windows.

Ensure side gates, sheds and garages are secured with suitable locks.

Report any suspicious persons or vehicles in your area.

Consider the use of home security systems including ring doorbells and CCTV.

Vehicle Theft Prevention

Always lock your vehicle and ensure all windows are fully closed.

If you own a keyless vehicle, keep keys in a Faraday pouch or signal-blocking container when not in use.

Avoid leaving vehicle keys near front doors, windows or letterboxes.

Remove valuables from vehicles or keep them out of sight.

Where possible, park in a secure, well-lit location.

Consider the use of steering wheel locks, tracking devices or other security measures for added protection.

By taking these simple precautions, you can significantly reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim of burglary or vehicle crime. If you witness suspicious activity, please report it via 101 or online. In an emergency, or if a crime is in progress, always call 999.
