Here’s a quick update on personal theft and what’s being done locally to address it. A convicted thief with a history of targeting hospital patients has been recalled to prison after a Met police officer found her illegally loitering in a north-west London hospital.
At around 15:20hrs on Tuesday, 7 July, the officer was visiting a patient while on duty at Northwick Park Hospital, when June Weatherman entered the patient's private room.
On seeing the officer, Weatherman immediately darted out again, claiming she was in the wrong room. The officer found this suspicious so, assisted by hospital staff, searched for Weatherman and located her within minutes on the ground floor heading towards an exit.
When questioned about why she was at the hospital and who she was visiting, Weatherman provided differing accounts and attempted to walk away. She was arrested after a struggle, during which she produced an aerosol canister to threaten the officer and staff.
Enquiries carried out following her arrest established that Weatherman was subject to a restraining order prohibiting her from entering hospitals except in extremely limited circumstances. The order followed her conviction in 2020 for offences involving thefts from hospital patients and related fraud offences committed in 2018 and 2019. A nationwide manhunt was launched in November 2018, and Weatherman was arrested about six months later at a caravan park in Clacton-on-Sea. She was sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment and released on licence in March 2025.
On Wednesday, 8 July Weatherman was charged with breach of a restraining order and obstruction.
She had previously been jailed for seven years in 2014 for similar offences against elderly hospital patients and was released in 2018.
PC Fionnuala Kennedy, who spotted and detained Weatherman, said: "June Weatherman has a long history of targeting some of the most vulnerable people in our society. Patients in hospitals should be able to focus on their recovery and receive visits from loved ones without fear of being targeted by offenders seeking to exploit them.
"Her previous convictions demonstrate a pattern of callous behaviour. I am so grateful to have been in hospital that day and noticed her – hopefully, by arresting and detaining Weatherman we were able to prevent any further harm to patients.
"When court orders are breached we are committed to taking swift action and protecting those who need it most.”
