☀️ Heatwave Reminder: Stay Safe in the Sun ☀️ With another spell of hot weather on the way, your local police are reminding residents to take extra care to stay safe and look out for family, friends and neighbours who may be more vulnerable to the effects of the heat. Please remember: ✅ Drink plenty of water throughout the day and avoid excessive alcohol consumption. ✅ Stay in the shade where possible, especially between 11am and 3pm when the sun is strongest. ✅ Wear light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing, a hat and sunscreen with adequate SPF protection. ✅ Never leave children, vulnerable adults or pets unattended in vehicles, even for a short time. Temperatures inside a vehicle can rise to dangerous levels within minutes. ✅ Keep homes cool by closing curtains or blinds during the day and opening windows when temperatures drop in the evening. ✅ Check on elderly neighbours, relatives and anyone with health conditions who may need additional support during the hot weather. ✅ Take extra care when near open water. If you are looking to cool off, only swim in designated areas and be aware of hidden dangers such as cold water shock, strong currents and deep water. If you experience symptoms of heat exhaustion, such as dizziness, headaches, excessive sweating or feeling faint, move to a cool place, drink water and seek medical advice if symptoms do not improve. Let's all enjoy the sunshine safely and help protect those most at risk. If you see someone in urgent need of assistance, please contact the emergency services immediately. Stay safe and stay cool. 🌞 Neighbourhood Policing Team | ||
