Shirley West Crime update

There has been an increase in vehicle crime in the area, particularly around theft from motor vehicles. Over the last month, there has been an increase in this, mainly at night with offenders trying car door handles looking for unlocked cars. Local crime

Below is a snapshot of the vehicle crime and burglaries that have been recorded in the Shirley area between Friday 31st July and Saturday 08th August 2026.

Burglary

Vehicle crime:

On 31st July 2026 around 02:15 on MYTON DRIVE, SOLIHULL, B90 1HH, Unknown person(s) approached the victim’s driveway and has tried the door handles of their vehicles before stealing a pushbike and made good their escape. 

On 31st July 2026 around 16:27 at PARKGATE, ASDA STRATFORD ROAD, SOLIHULL, B903GG. Unknown male approached a parked car and tried the car door and swiped his mobile phone against the door handle in an apparent attempt to gain access to the vehicle. Access was not gained and there is no damage to the vehicle. 

On 04th August 2026 around 23:28 at PARKGATE, ASDA STRATFORD ROAD, SOLIHULL, B903GG. Unknown male has approached the victim and has snatched the keys from his hands by force and stolen the vehicle.

On 05th August 2026 around 02:30 on BERRY MAUD LANE, SOLIHULL, B90 1BY. Unknown person(s) approached a locked parked and unattended vehicle and opened the car door without causing any damage, carried out a search inside the car but did not steal anything.

Between 05th - 06th August 2026 between 21:00 - 03:44 on CADET DRIVE, SOLIHULL, B90 2FD. Unknown person(s) approached a parked vehicle and stole it. They then made good their escape in an unknown direction.

Between 04th - 06th August 2026, 19:00 - 07:00 on HIGH STREET, SOLIHULL, B90 1EY. Unknown person has gained access to the victim’s vehicle and stolen a mobile phone. The person then made good their escape in an unknown direction. 

On 07th August 2026 between 21:43 - 22:43 on PETERBROOK ROAD, SOLIHULL, B90 1JQ. Unknown persons have gained access to the locked and secure vehicle on a driveway by unknown means and made good their escape in an unknown direction. 

Crime prevention advice

 Please consider purchasing a steering wheel lock for your vehicle. This will decrease the chances of your vehicle being targeted by offenders. Also remember to double check that your vehicle is locked, before leaving it unattended. Installing an immobiliser and covert tracking device will also increase the chance of getting your vehicle back should it be stolen.

 Please don’t leave valuable items on show inside your vehicle. Even loose change can be appealing to vehicle offenders.

- Consider installing anti-snap locks to all external windows and doors on your home. This will make it more difficult for potential burglars to gain access to your home. Installing a monitored burglar alarm is also a great deterrent. Try to make the front and rear of your property as well-lit as possible by installing motion activated lighting.

- CCTV is a great deterrent for offenders. This can also be crucial in linking criminals to multiple crimes.

BE AWARE: Distraction burglaries have been reported in this area. We’ve seen an increase in daytime distraction burglaries where elderly and vulnerable residents being targeted by burglars pretending to be from waterboard and drain company officials. 

Please help us to stop this from happening again by following the advice below. Please call us on 101 if you have seen anyone acting suspiciously in this area. 

Burglars won't go to the trouble of breaking in if they can just knock and be invited in. So always be on your guard when anyone you're not expecting - a man, a woman or even a child - turns up at your door. 

Bogus 'officials' may be smartly dressed and claim to be from the council, gas board, health authority or other organisation. 

Bogus 'dealers' may offer to buy your antiques, furniture or jewellery, at what seems to be a good price. If you want to sell something, choose one or two genuine dealers to value it or ask a friend or relative for their advice. 

Bogus 'workmen' may say that they need to come in to check something or make urgent repairs.  You also need to be careful of callers who offer to make building repairs or tarmac your drive. Often, they'll ask for money in advance; they may even offer to drive you to the bank to withdraw money to pay them. 

If you need any building work done, get several written quotes from reputable firms, then decide which one is best. If in doubt, talk it through with a neighbour or someone in your family. 

Genuine callers will normally make an appointment first and will carry identification with their photograph on.

What we are doing to reassure residents:

Officers from the Shirley neighbourhood policing team are in the area today talking to residents about distraction burglary.

We have increased our patrols across Solihull at the key times when these offences are taking place.
