Burbage Police. Arrested And Remanded, Dog Bite, Horses And Youth Related Issues.

We hope you are well. A busy week with a wide range of issues and concerns being dealt with. Here is an update regarding crime and Police activity in Burbage this week. 

Reported Crime and Appeals

Report of a dog bite outside the Co-op on Boyslade Road, Saturday 1st of August. It does not appear the owner of the dog is aware of the incident, and it would be good if they could get in touch. Incident happened between 20:00-20:05. Please get in touch if you have any information 26000458781

Report of a theft of a very large, old and expensive garden statue from a property on Watling Street. The item is described as a 4ft high lady on a bird bath, made of stone. Please be mindful of this type of crime, whether it be garden ornaments, bicycles or any other items that may be left in the garden. 26000474901

Several reports of loose horses and swans on the road this week. We have been dealing with these calls and hopefully the horse situation is sorted. 

We have received 36 calls to Police regarding incidents in Burbage since our last update. This includes 9 emergency calls and 7 priority calls. A lot of these calls were transport related (A5 area). 

Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

A message from Inspector Whittle of Hinckley Police

"Following on from our recent updates, where we highlighted burglaries and vehicle thefts across the Hinckley area, a thorough investigation was launched by our Neighbourhood Priority Team, supported by local officers.

As a result of this work, four people were arrested on Wednesday 5th of August, in connection with the offending. Following extensive enquiries, two individuals have now been charged with more than 40 offences relating to 27 separate crimes committed across the Hinckley area during the last three weeks.

The two defendants appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court and have been remanded in custody until the end of September.

This is a significant result and I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the Neighbourhood Priority Team, the local officers who supported the investigation, and the victims and witnesses whose information and cooperation were invaluable in bringing these offenders before the courts. Further enforcement activity will continue as we identify and pursue any additional offenders linked to this crime series."

Vehicle seized following patrols on Brookside for S165 no insurance, we have also identified and visited a youth regarding E-bike/balaclavas, dealt with reports of youth related anti-social behaviour and shoplifting. 

Patrols around Burbage include ongoing visits to East Close area and Tilton Road Park.  

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

Just a reminder if you are into your gardening, the BGC gardening annual show is at Hastings High school on Saturday the 15th of August, we will be there with our crime prevention stall from around 15:30 – 18:00 if you want to pop in. We have items sold at cost such as fence spikes, shed alarms, alarmed padlocks and much more. 

Whilst reports of car theft and residential burglary have dropped, please remember that we are still in the main holidays and this time of year can historically see increases in these types of crime. Please ensure valuables are removed from your property and consider alarms, CCTV, family/neighbours visiting your property and try to make your property look occupied.

Resident request Car tax renewal scam

“I’ve just received two scam emails, they indicate my car tax renewal for August has failed and follow the link. I have to admit they do look legitimate; it’s a worry how many people will be taken in by this” 

When it comes to renewing any policies, please go directly to the official websites and DO NOT use links within emails when you are paying for services/bills etc.
