 Look out for elderly neighbours this summer

A message from South Wales Police

Hot weather can be particularly dangerous for older and vulnerable people.

If you have an elderly neighbour, please take a few minutes to check in on them. A simple knock on the door or phone call could make a real difference.

🌡️ Encourage them to:

● Drink plenty of water and keep cool.

● Stay out of direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day.

● Keep curtains or blinds closed in rooms facing the sun.

● Avoid unnecessary journeys during the hottest hours.

● Check that fans or other cooling measures are being used safely.

❤️ Most importantly, don’t assume someone else has checked on them.

A quick visit, a phone call or offering to pick up some shopping can help keep our elderly neighbours safe.

If you are concerned about someone, don’t ignore it. Check in and, if necessary, seek appropriate help.
