Warm Weather & Cold Water - Please Keep Safe When In And Around Water

With another bout of warm weather upon us, Water Safety Scotland would like to remind us all about the dangers of warm weather and cold water.

The definition of a heatwave in Scotland is when a location records at least three consecutive days with maximum temperatures above 25°C, however, impacts from heat can be felt for periods shorter than this. 

1. Heatwaves and warm weather can be a critical issue for water safety in the summer, as the warm air temperature can entice people to submerge themselves in water to cool down. 

2. Reservoirs, rivers and lochs might appear inviting for a quick cool down but there are many hidden dangers, such as strong currents and cold water shock with consequences that can be fatal.
