I wanted to provide an update regarding Violence against women and girls, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. 🚫 END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS 🚫 Everyone Has the Right to Feel Safe
Violence against women and girls has no place in our communities. Every person deserves to live, work, study, and travel without fear of abuse, harassment, intimidation, or violence.
Violence Is Never Acceptable
Violence against women and girls can take many forms:
❌ Domestic abuse ❌ Stalking and harassment ❌ Sexual harassment ❌ Sexual violence and assault ❌ Coercive or controlling behaviour ❌ Online abuse and intimidation ❌ Forced marriage and so-called "honour-based" abuse
Any form of violence, abuse, or intimidation is unacceptable and can have devastating and long-lasting consequences.
KNOW THE LAW Violence Against Women and Girls Is a Crime
Offences such as assault, stalking, harassment, coercive control, and sexual violence are criminal offences and may result in:
⚖️ Police investigation ⚖️ Criminal prosecution 💷 Fines and compensation orders 🚫 Restraining or protection orders 🏛️ Court appearances 🚔 Imprisonment
There is no excuse for abuse, threats, or violence.
WE ALL HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY
✅ Challenge inappropriate behaviour safely ✅ Support victims and survivors ✅ Report incidents to the police when necessary ✅ Promote respect, equality, and dignity ✅ Help create safe spaces for everyone
Small actions can make a big difference in preventing violence and supporting those affected.
