BEYOND THE SURFACE | 08 | When Enforcement Becomes Necessary |
||
|
Out on patrol, You quickly learn one thing that not every problem can be solved with a conversation. We can speak to someone. We can listen. We can explain the impact their behaviour is having on residents and businesses. Sometimes that works.. Sometimes it doesn't. When the same behaviour continues — drug-related activity, intimidation, persistent ASB or repeated disruption in the same public spaces — there comes a point where doing nothing is not an option either. Understanding someone's circumstances does not mean allowing other people to keep suffering the consequences. There is a place for lawful enforcement when it is necessary and proportionate. Not because we have stopped caring about what is happening to the person involved. But because we also have a responsibility to the people who live, work and use these streets every day. That's part of the balance of neighbourhood policing. Listen first. Understand where we can. Act when we need to. Beyond the Surface.
