Poplar SNT Officers Support Drug Recovery Through Proactive Intelligence and Partnership Working:
Poplar Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT) officer received an intel report from local resident regarding suspected drug dealing activity in LEYLAND HOUSE. On reassurance visit PCSO's located a lockbox in the stairwell, matching the description provided by the informant. The lockbox appeared to have the potential to be used for concealing drugs. The intelligence was passed to the Tower Hamlets ASB team for their attention and appropriate action.
ASB officer taken immediate action attended the location with his team and dog unit. On arrival they identified a lockbox containing plastic wrappings. The drugs dog subsequently indicated a strong indication on the box, raising concerns that it may have been used in connection with the storage or supply of drugs and after opening the box class A drugs were discovered inside.
During the same patrol, ASB officers observed a male acting suspiciously on the estate and entering a nearby stairwell. Officers maintained observations and identified a second lockbox of a similar design, which was suspected to have been emptied. Due to the developing intelligence, assistance was requested from the Tower Hamlets Task Force. Officers worked together to monitor the individual, and police subsequently attended and identified him. A search was conducted, although no drugs were recovered from the male at that time. The incident demonstrates the value of proactive patrols, intelligence-led policing and partnership working between Poplar SNT, the Tower Hamlets Enforcement and specialist resources. The information gathered has been submitted as intelligence to support further enquiries and help identify and disrupt suspected drug-related activity within the local community. Poplar SNT will continue to work with partner agencies and residents to provide visible reassurance, gather intelligence and take proportionate action to tackle drug-related activity and associated anti-social behaviour.
