Update on investigation into disorder

Dear Resident,

We wanted to share with you an update into our investigation into disorder yesterday, which saw two teenagers injured. 

We were called to Grimley Road just before 4.45pm, where a 15-year-old boy was found after being stabbed.

Thankfully, his injuries are not life-threatening.

Another boy, aged 16, was found with stab injuries nearby. He was taken to hospital and remains under arrest on suspicion of wounding.

A third boy, aged 16, was arrested on suspicion of wounding, while a fourth, aged 15, has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

The three arrested remain in police custody.

Officers were at the scene last night and some local roads were briefly closed but have now reopened.

Our investigation is continuing at pace, and detectives are carrying out several enquiries as we work to establish the circumstances around what happened.

Today (26 August), a dispersal order has been put in place from 11.42am for the next 48 hours, allowing us to move people or groups away from the area shown on the map.

We also have dedicated resources in place patrolling the local area to offer reassurance to the local community.

Inspector Matthew Shaw, from the local policing team, said: “We understand this was a concerning incident which is why we’re taking proportionate steps to prevent disorder and reassure the community as our investigation continues.

“You may notice extra officers on patrol in the area, and we’re ready to listen to any concerns from residents. 

“Anyone who has information about this incident, or any footage, should contact us as soon as possible.”
