I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Road safety issues (Speeding), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. 🚦 Community Speedwatch – Making Roads Safer
Kent Police runs Community Speedwatch, a volunteer-led initiative focused on reducing speeding and improving safety. What is Speedwatch?
👥 Local volunteers, trained by Kent Police, monitor speeds at approved sites (20, 30, or 40 mph zones) using certified equipment.
📋 Details of speeding vehicles are securely logged for 12 months. Repeat or excessive offenders may receive advisory letters—and in some cases, personal visits from officers. Important:
Speedwatch is educational, not enforcement. No fines or penalty points are issued directly, but the data helps target police action and inform road safety improvements. ✅ Does it work?

👉 www.kent.police.uk/speedwatch Today, your local Beat Officers conducted proactive speed enforcement operations at a number of locations across the ward in response to concerns raised by residents regarding vehicle speeds. During these checks, a number of motorists were found to be travelling in excess of the posted speed limits and were issued with the appropriate enforcement tickets.
The highest speed detected during today's enforcement activity was 45mph in the 30mph limit on Sittingbourne Road. Travelling at 45mph in a 30mph zone significantly increases stopping distances and the risk of causing serious injury or death, particularly in residential areas where pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable road users may be present.
Enforcement activity is not about penalising motorists unnecessarily, but about changing driver behaviour and preventing collisions before lives are lost. We regularly carry out enforcement and educational activities across the ward to improve road safety and address concerns raised by our communities.
