Community Concern Update: Drug Dealing in South HighfieldsAreas covered: Lincoln Street, Conduit Street, College Street and Upper Tichborne Street This month, officers have been quietly working behind the scenes following a steady stream of intelligence from local residents regarding suspected drug dealing taking place at an address on College Street. Thanks to the volume and quality of information provided by the community, officers were able to build a strong intelligence picture and present evidence to the courts. A warrant was subsequently granted and executed at the address. During the warrant, officers made multiple arrests and recovered drugs and a machete from the property. The investigation is now ongoing, and officers will continue to work through the evidence gathered. We will also be liaising with Leicester City Council to explore what further action may be available in relation to the property, with the aim of preventing it from being used for drug-related activity in the future. Community Concern Update: Reducing Retail Theft and Shoplifting on London RoadRetail theft and shoplifting continue to have a significant impact on businesses along London Road, and tackling this issue remains a priority for your local neighbourhood policing team. Following an increase in reports of shop theft, officers have been working closely with local businesses to better understand the factors contributing to the rise in offending and identify opportunities to prevent further crimes. Earlier this year, officers carried out proactive plain-clothes operations within Sainsbury's, resulting in a prolific shoplifter being caught in the act and dealt with appropriately. As part of our ongoing work, we also received a valuable piece of intelligence from a member of the community regarding a local shop near London Road that was suspected of purchasing stolen goods, often to order. Acting on this information, officers from local neighbourhood teams and specialist departments worked together to carry out an operation at the premises. During the operation, officers recovered a large quantity of suspected stolen property, much of which is believed to have been stolen from Sainsbury's. Using barcode scanning technology and working alongside store staff, we were able to identify numerous items and begin the process of returning them to their rightful owner. A number of arrests were made, and the investigation is now ongoing as officers work to establish the full extent of the offending and ensure those responsible are brought to justice. Community Concern Update: Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour and Drug-Related Activity in the St James Road and Abingdon Road AreaAddressing anti-social behaviour, drug-related activity and environmental concerns in the St James Road and Abingdon Road area remains a key priority for your local neighbourhood policing team. Work is continuing with our partners and the local community to address the issues that have been affecting the area. Residents have been working alongside Leicester City Council to explore repairs to a number of gates that were previously installed to help prevent anti-social behaviour and reduce access to areas that were regularly being misused. Unfortunately, over time, some of these gates have fallen into disrepair, making the locations more vulnerable to anti-social behaviour and other criminal activity. While plans for repairs and improvements are being considered, officers have increased patrols in the area to help deter offending and identify those responsible. We would like to thank members of the community who have continued to provide information, photographs and video footage relating to incidents and individuals causing concern. This information has proved invaluable and has helped officers identify a number of people frequenting the area. As a result, officers have been able to develop a better intelligence picture, providing stronger grounds for the use of proactive policing tactics, including stop and search powers where appropriate and lawful to do so. We hope that by combining high-visibility patrols, targeted enforcement activity and partnership working, we will continue to see positive results in reducing crime and anti-social behaviour in the area.
