Parking Fraud Warning for Residents

Dear Wandsworth Common community,

Please be aware of a suspected scam targeting motorists in the Garratt Lane junction with Thorndean Road, SW18 area.

A Blue Badge holder recently reported parking nearby before being approached by an unknown male, described as wearing black clothing, who claimed that vehicle registration details needed to be entered into a nearby parking machine. The male reassured the victim that there would be no charge and directed them to a machine located elsewhere.

When the victim attempted to use the machine, multiple bank cards were retained by it. The victim later discovered that attempts had been made to use those cards fraudulently. Fortunately, with assistance from nearby businesses, the cards were cancelled promptly.

Crime Prevention Advice

If you have experienced a similar incident, witnessed suspicious behaviour around parking machines, or have relevant CCTV footage from the Garratt Lane/Thorndean Road SW18 area, please report it to police.
