Main Road/Pasture Lane junction

Good morning, 

Some time ago, I placed cones on Main Road adjacent to Pasture Lane to prevent parking within 10m of the junction. Until recently this has worked well, and improved the visibility for those coming from Pasture Lane onto Main Road. 

Parking within 10m of a junction is covered under Rule 243 of the Highway Code. There is no offence for parking within 10m of a junction in itself. However, if it causes obstruction or restricts visibility then it falls under Section 22 of the Road Traffic Act which incorporates the offence of dangerous parking.

However, recently drivers have taken to moving the cones and parking there again, and on occasion being ‘rude’ to residents who challenge them. 

First of all, can I please recommend that you do not challenge people, and either photograph or video the offence (without getting into conflict with anyone) showing the vehicle registration clearly. Then send it to Op Snap via the following link: Operations Snap -Humberside reporting “dangerous parking,” and siting that it is within the 10m guidance from the Highway Code, and that it makes visibility for people turning out of Pasture Lane, very difficult.
