Help Prevent Theft During the Recent Spate of Burglaries

We are currently seeing an increase in burglaries targeting garages, sheds, workshops, and other outbuildings across the area. These locations often contain valuable items such as bicycles, power tools, gardening equipment, and machinery, making them attractive targets for offenders.

Residents are encouraged to take a few simple precautions to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.

Security Tips for Garages and Outbuildings

✅ Lock all doors and windows

Always use strong, good-quality locks.

Consider upgrading to anti-snap locks, heavy-duty padlocks, or ground anchors where appropriate.

✅ Keep valuable items out of sight

Avoid leaving tools, bikes, or costly equipment visible through windows or open doors.

Consider covering windows or installing frosted film.

✅ Mark and register your property

Use property marking kits or UV pens.

✅ Install security lighting

Motion-activated lights can deter opportunist thieves and alert residents to activity.

✅ Fit alarms or CCTV

Garage and shed alarms are relatively inexpensive and can provide an effective deterrent.

CCTV and video doorbells can help identify offenders and provide evidence.

✅ Secure tools and ladders

Tools left outside can be used by offenders to gain entry to your property.

Store ladders securely and lock away tools after use.

✅ Keep gates locked

Side gates should be secured to restrict access to rear gardens and outbuildings.

Be Vigilant

Please remain alert and report any suspicious behaviour, particularly:

People looking into gardens or driveways.

Unknown vehicles repeatedly driving around residential areas.

Individuals carrying tools or equipment in unusual circumstances.

Anyone attempting door handles, gates, garages, or sheds.
